I recently has the pleasure of reading STATE OF TECHNOLOGY IN AGING SERVICES:SUMMARY by Majd Alwan of the Center for Aging Services Technologies. ( see link ).
http://www.agingtech.org/documents/bscf_state_technoloy_summary.pdf
This summary "...offers a vision for long-term care that includes using integrated information technology systems to support and enhance the health, safety and social connectedness of older people living in their own homes".
The report's conclusion states that "...it is time to develop successful business models for technology development, advance interconnectivity between different and disparate information technology systems, and improve the acceptance and usability of the technology by end-users".
This summary is based on a on a larger two-part report which is must reading for anyone who wants to use technology to help people to age in place while improving healthcare outcomes and containing costs.
We urge any of our readers who have related expertise to please help us create the Maui Connected Care System in coming months. We need expertise, technologies, and a consortia of sponsors to help us build a successful ( good cost/benefits) model of connected care on Maui which can be replicated elsewhere.
